Question: Why haven't I heard about Bajaj scooters before?

If you haven't heard about Bajaj scooters before, it's probably because you don't live in Europe or Asia, or you are very new to the scooter scene.

Bajaj Auto Ltd. has been manufacturing scooters for over 40 years.  There are very few places in Europe and Asia where you will not find Bajaj scooters.  Bajaj currently exports to over 75 countries around the world.  The United States now added to that list.

Bajaj tested the waters here in the United States back in the 80's.  But the scooter market was very small and there didn't appear to be much hope for growth.  How times have changed!  A few years ago, the signs for a growing interest in scooters began to show and we were able to convince Bajaj to give it a try again. 

Before we negotiated with Bajaj Auto to be their U.S. distributor, we visited their factory in Pune, India to see first hand how they made scooters.  Having come from a manufacturing background, it was easy for us to see why Bajaj Auto sells more scooters than any other manufacturer; Bajaj Auto Ltd. is very efficient at building scooters.  They take sheets of German steel on rolls and stamp out chassis halves in huge presses, then they robotically weld them together.  They build their own engines in air conditioned clean-rooms. Parts are painted robotically.  Assembly is performed on moving assembly lines with multiple tests and checks along the way.  There are 250 people in quality control that monitor incoming supplies, production and final testing.  Every Bajaj scooter and motorcycle, as it exits the production line, is dynamometer tested for two kilometers, having to pass a dozen performance parameters before it is allowed to proceed to crating and shipping.
