Question: What kind of gas mileage can I expect from the Legend or Chetak?

With small engines, even more so than larger engines, fuel consumption varies wildly with various driving styles and terrain conditions.  Running flat out will burn a lot more fuel than slow cruising, hills demand more fuel and rapid acceleration will also take its toll on fuel consumption.

For most riders in the U.S., you can expect  70 to 90 miles per gallon.  In Europe and Asia, where fuel is more expensive, the driving styles are more conservative and mileage per gallon is higher.

A Legend rider in India wrote to the Bajaj factory that he was getting 157 miles to a gallon with his Legend scooter.  I can assure you that to achieve this kind of mileage it takes a light hand on the throttle and moderate road speeds.

The Bajaj factory monitored mileage tests gave an average of 127 miles to a gallon.  The Fuel Economy Test Cycle used by the EPA to test exhaust emissions, under simulated city driving conditions, gave an average fuel consumption of 108 miles per gallon.

In any case, you won't be spending a lot of money on fuel.
